Brightening the Future for NC Arts Students

Brightening the Future: Fountain Electric Helps Expand Northwest School of the Arts for NC Students

  • Charlotte, NC
  • General Contractor: Balfour Beatty
  • $7.5 Million Electrical | $49.5 Million Total
  • Renovation of existing structures, construction of new building and demolition of two structures.

Northwest School of the Arts is a CMS Magnet School providing specialized arts instruction for grades 6-12. Students choose from 10 majors including Band, Orchestra, Piano, Chorus, Dance, Theatre, Musical Theatre, Technical Theatre, Costume Design, and Visual Arts.

The construction project, ongoing since Summer 2024 and continuing through 2027, centers on a new building featuring science labs, photography rooms, and expanded art spaces. This expansion will increase the school’s capacity to serve more students and strengthen arts education throughout the area.

Fountain Electric and its subcontractors handled all electrical work, from new lighting and lighting control systems to intercom and intrusion detection systems. The project’s unique challenge? Completing this work while the school remained fully operational, ensuring minimal disruption to students and staff.
